1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends
4 of Lucinda Burks, who recently passed away; and
5 WHEREAS, Lucinda Burks was born in Fayette, Mississippi
6 on January 14, 1933; her parents were Fred and Liscora Allen;
7 and
8 WHEREAS, Lucinda Burks and Melton J. Burks were united in
9 holy matrimony in 1954; she accepted Jesus Christ as her
10 Savior and was baptized at Locust Grove Baptist Church in
11 Fayette, Mississippi; after moving to Chicago in 1954 she
12 joined with the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, and then
13 joined the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in 1978; and
14 WHEREAS, Lucinda Burks graduated from Alcorn High School
15 in Lormon, Mississippi; and
16 WHEREAS, Lucinda Burks will be remembered by all that
17 knew and loved her, especially her husband, Melton; her sons,
18 Irvin, Emrick, and Kelvin (Anita); her fifteen grandchildren
19 and thirteen great-grandchildren; her sisters, Anna Brown,
20 Martha Knowles, Hester Brown, Clara Burham, Lillie (Charlie)
21 Scott, and Mary (Leroy) Parker; her brothers, King Charles
22 (Sally) and John (Augustine); her uncle, John (Berlina)
23 Allen; her sister-in-law, Henrice; and many nieces, nephews,
24 cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
25 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
26 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
27 all that knew and loved her, the death of Lucinda Burks of
28 Chicago, Illinois; and be it further
29 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
30 presented to the family of Lucinda Burks.
