Illinois Compiled Statutes

This FTP site contains a static copy of the Illinois Compiled Statutes in HTML format.  It was updated on 12/8/2023 with all Public Acts through 103-566.  More recent Public Acts and updated statutes can be found on the Illinois General Assembly's website (www.ilga.gov) soon after they become law. The only official copy of the law is the printed copy maintained by the Secretary of State’s office.


This FTP site is generally updated in the Fall of each year. If you need more recent information from the Illinois Compiled Statutes, check the website (www.ilga.gov) or contact the webmaster (webmaster@ilga.gov). For information concerning the relationship between statutes and Public Acts, refer to "Using the Illinois Compiled Statutes and Public Acts" (http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/using.asp).

Document Name Format:
  Document names are formatted as "ccccaaaaats" where:


  cccc = four-digit Chapter number (left-padded with zeroes)
            0005 = Chapter 5
            0120 = Chapter 120


  aaaaa = five digits for the Act Number.  Four digits (left-padded here with zeroes) are normally used for displaying the Act Number.  If the fifth character is not zero, it is displayed after a decimal point.  For example:
            00050 = Act 5
            00055 = Act 5.5
            01200 = Act 120


  t = Document Type
            A = Chapter Header
            F = Act Title
            H = Article Heading
            K = Section


  s = Section/Article Number
            Section and Article Numbers may be combinations of numbers, letters, and certain punctuation (including period, hyphen, and space).  There is no number for Chapter Header or Act Title documents.

Document Ordering:
  The "Section Sequence.txt" file contains a list of the documents in the order in which they are sequenced in the Illinois Compiled Statutes.  The correct order cannot be determined by the document names alone.






Repealed Sections and Acts
--------------------------
If a Section was repealed on or after January 1, 1993, a notation to that effect should appear instead of text of the repealed Section.  Acts repealed on or after January 1, 1993 may be determined by reference to the "ILCS Index by Act" (http://www.ilga.gov/commission/lrb_home.html).
