Amends the School Code. Requires the State Board of Education, in conjunction with the Department of Public Health, to establish a calorie transparency program, to be implemented in the public schools of this State. Provides that the purpose of the program shall be to reduce obesity by educating students on healthy eating habits and the importance of being aware of the contents of the food they eat. Provides that a school board shall require each school to conspicuously display the nutritional information of all food items offered for sale to students on school property.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections |
5 | | 2-3.170, 10-20.60, and 34-18.53 as follows: |

7 | | Sec. 2-3.170. Calorie transparency program. The State |
8 | | Board of Education, in conjunction with the Department of |
9 | | Public Health, shall establish a calorie transparency program, |
10 | | to be implemented in the public schools of this State. The |
11 | | purpose of the program shall be to reduce obesity by educating |
12 | | students on healthy eating habits and the importance of being |
13 | | aware of the contents of the food they eat. The State Board of |
14 | | Education may adopt any rules necessary to administer this |
15 | | Section. |
