| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

| 4 | | Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section |
| 5 | | 27-20.7 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (105 ILCS 5/27-20.7 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 27-20.7. Cursive writing. Beginning with the |
| 8 | | 2018-2019 school year, public elementary schools shall offer at |
| 9 | | least one unit of instruction in cursive writing. School |
| 10 | | districts shall, by policy, determine at what grade level or |
| 11 | | levels students are to be offered cursive writing, provided |
| 12 | | that such instruction must be offered before students complete |
| 13 | | grade 5.

| 14 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect July 1, |
| 15 | | 2018.
