| 2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 3293, AS AMENDED, by | ||||||
| 3 | replacing everything after the enacting clause with the | ||||||
| 4 | following:
| ||||||
| 5 | "Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by | ||||||
| 6 | changing Section 12-806 as follows:
| ||||||
| 7 | (625 ILCS 5/12-806) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12-806)
| ||||||
| 8 | Sec. 12-806.
Identification, stop signal arms and special | ||||||
| 9 | lighting when
not used as a school bus. | ||||||
| 10 | (a) Except as provided in Section 12-806a,
whenever a | ||||||
| 11 | school bus is operated for the purpose of transporting
| ||||||
| 12 | passengers other than persons in connection with an activity of | ||||||
| 13 | the school
or religious organization which owns the school bus | ||||||
| 14 | or for which the school
bus is operated, the "SCHOOL BUS" signs | ||||||
| 15 | shall be covered or concealed and
the stop signal arm and | ||||||
| 16 | flashing signal system shall not be operable
through normal | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | controls.
| ||||||
| 2 | (b) If a school district, religious organization, vendor of | ||||||
| 3 | school busses, or school bus company whose main source of | ||||||
| 4 | income is contracting with a school district or religious | ||||||
| 5 | organization for the provision of transportation services in | ||||||
| 6 | connection with the activities of a school district or | ||||||
| 7 | religious organization, discards through either sale or | ||||||
| 8 | donation, a school bus to an individual or entity that is not | ||||||
| 9 | one of the aforementioned entities above, then the recipient of | ||||||
| 10 | such school bus shall be responsible for immediately removing, | ||||||
| 11 | covering, or concealing the "SCHOOL BUS" signs and any other | ||||||
| 12 | insignia or words indicating the vehicle is a school bus, | ||||||
| 13 | rendering inoperable or removing entirely the stop signal arm | ||||||
| 14 | and flashing signal system, and painting the school bus a | ||||||
| 15 | different color from those under Section 12-801 of this Code. | ||||||
