Amends various acts relating to the governance of public universities and community college districts in Illinois. Requires public universities and community colleges to not hold any classes on the day of a general primary or general election, as established by the Election Code. Allows public universities and community colleges to remain open for other purposes.

AN ACT concerning education.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The University of Illinois Act is amended by adding Section 100 as follows:

(110 ILCS 305/100 new)

Sec. 100. Election days. The University shall not hold any classes on the day of a general primary or a general election, as established by the Election Code. Notwithstanding this Section, the University may remain open for other purposes.

Section 10. The Southern Illinois University Management Act is amended by adding Section 85 as follows:

Sec. 85. Election days. The University shall not hold any classes on the day of a general primary or a general election, as established by the Election Code. Notwithstanding this Section, the University may remain open for other purposes.

Section 15. The Chicago State University Law is amended by adding Section 5-195 as follows:

Sec. 5-195. Election days. The University shall not hold any classes on the day of a general primary or a general election, as established by the Election Code. Notwithstanding this Section, the University may remain open for other purposes.

Section 20. The Eastern Illinois University Law is amended by adding Section 10-195 as follows:

Section 25. The Governors State University Law is amended by adding Section 15-195 as follows:

Section 30. The Illinois State University Law is amended by adding Section 20-200 as follows:

Section 50. The Public Community College Act is amended by adding Section 3-29.11 as follows:

Sec. 3-29.11. Election days. A community college shall not hold any classes on the day of a general primary or a general election, as established by the Election Code. Notwithstanding this Section, a community college may remain open for other purposes.
