| 1 | | AN ACT concerning business.
|
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the Bedbug |
| 5 | | Inspection Act. |
| 6 | | Section 5. Definitions. In this Act: |
| 7 | | "Merchant" means a person who, in the ordinary course of |
| 8 | | business, regularly rents or leases furniture or electronic |
| 9 | | equipment to customers, but does not include a person who |
| 10 | | offers any lease that is automatically renewable with each |
| 11 | | payment after the initial period and that permits the consumer |
| 12 | | to become the owner of the merchandise. |
| 13 | | "Pest" means undesirable insects including, but not |
| 14 | | limited to, bedbugs and roaches. |
| 15 | | "Rent" means the transfer of possession property or right |
| 16 | | of possession property for consideration. |
| 17 | | Section 10. Inspection. A merchant must inspect any |
| 18 | | previously rented furniture and equipment before renting the |
| 19 | | furniture or equipment to a subsequent customer. |
| 20 | | Section 15. Treatment required. If an inspection reveals |
| 21 | | the presence of pests, the merchant must treat the furniture or |
