Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that each school bus manufactured on or after the effective date of this bill and purchased for use in this State shall be equipped with a 3-point seat belt or any other federally approved restraint system in a number sufficient to allow each passenger being transported to use a separate belt or restraint system.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing |
5 | | Section 12-807 as follows:
|

7 | | Sec. 12-807. Seat belt for driver and passengers . |
8 | | (a) Each school bus shall be equipped with a retractable |
9 | | lap belt assembly
for the driver's seat. No school bus shall be |
10 | | operated unless the driver
has properly restrained himself with |
11 | | the lap belt assembly.

12 | | (b) Each school bus manufactured on or after the effective |
13 | | date of this amendatory Act of the 100th General Assembly and |
14 | | purchased for use in this State shall be equipped with a |
15 | | 3-point seat belt or any other federally approved restraint |
16 | | system under 49 CFR 571.222 in a number sufficient to allow |
17 | | each passenger being transported to use a separate seat belt or |
18 | | restraint system. |
