11 | | (8) He or she displays recurring violent behaviors, |
12 | | including, but not limited to, fighting or threatening |
13 | | other students or school personnel. |
14 | | (b) Beginning with the 2018-2019 school year, a school |
15 | | board shall require its schools to connect at-risk students in |
16 | | need of academic support to either community-based or in-school |
17 | | academic support. The academic support may include, but is not |
18 | | limited to, any of the following: |
19 | | (1) Individual or small-group tutoring. |
20 | | (2) A summer school program. |
21 | | (3) A mentoring program. |
22 | | (4) An evaluation for the purpose of placing the |
23 | | student in an individualized education program or a federal |
24 | | Section 504 plan. |
25 | | (5) Meeting with an academic advisor. |
26 | | Each school district shall inform the parent or guardian of |

1 | | an at-risk student about the community-based or in-school |
2 | | academic support available in that school district or the |
3 | | community in which the school district is located. |

5 | | Sec. 34-18.60. Academic support; at-risk student. |
6 | | (a) In this Section, "at-risk student" means a student who |
7 | | meets any of the following: |
8 | | (1) He or she has failed 2 or more classes in the |
9 | | immediately preceding school semester. |
10 | | (2) He or she is experiencing a decline in his or her |
11 | | grade point average of more than 2 points on a 4.0 scale, |
12 | | or its equivalent on another scale, compared to the |
13 | | immediately preceding school semester. |
14 | | (3) He or she is a chronic truant, as defined under |
15 | | Section 26-2a of this Code. |
16 | | (4) He or she has been suspended more than 3 times from |
17 | | a school pursuant to Section 10-22.6 or 34-19 of this Code. |
18 | | (5) He or she is homeless or at-risk of becoming |
