| 1 | | AN ACT concerning State government.
|
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Department of Veterans' Affairs Act is |
| 5 | | amended by adding Section 2.13 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (20 ILCS 2805/2.13 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 2.13. Legionnaires' disease notifications. |
| 8 | | (a) As used in this Section, "outbreak" means when 2 or |
| 9 | | more people are exposed to Legionella and get sick in the same |
| 10 | | place at about the same time. |
| 11 | | (b) A Veterans Home shall notify the residents of the |
| 12 | | Veterans Home, the families of residents at the Veterans Home, |
| 13 | | the residents' health care providers, the authorized agents |
| 14 | | under the residents' health care powers of attorney, visitors |
| 15 | | to the Veterans Home, employees of the Veterans Home, and |
| 16 | | individuals working on contract at the Veterans Home in writing |
| 17 | | within 24 hours of a laboratory test confirmation of an |
| 18 | | outbreak of Legionnaires' disease at the Veterans Home. The |
| 19 | | notification may be sent by mail or electronically.

| 20 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
| 21 | | becoming law.
