Amends the Environmental Protection Act. Provides that a facility emitting ethylene oxide at levels higher than federal or State standards shall immediately cease operations until the level of emissions are reduced below both federal and State standards. Effective immediately.

1 | | AN ACT concerning safety.
|
2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Environmental Protection Act is amended by |
5 | | adding Section 9.20 as follows: |
6 | | (415 ILCS 5/9.20 new) |
7 | | Sec. 9.20. Ethylene oxide emissions. If, at any time, a |
8 | | facility is emitting ethylene oxide at a level higher than the |
9 | | standards set forth by Section 112 of the federal Clean Air Act |
10 | | (42 U.S.C. 7412) or the Illinois Environmental Protection |
11 | | Agency pursuant to its authority under Section 10 of this Act, |
12 | | then the facility shall immediately cease operations until |
13 | | sufficient changes are made to reduce the level of such |
14 | | emissions below both federal and State standards.

15 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
16 | | becoming law.
