| 1 | HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
| ||||||
| 3 | Assembly pays honor and respect to the truly great individuals
| ||||||
| 4 | who have served our country and, in doing so, have made the
| ||||||
| 5 | ultimate sacrifice for our nation; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Corporal Donald W. Bollman was born in Cook County | ||||||
| 7 | to Max and Harriet Bollman on Christmas Eve 1944; he was the | ||||||
| 8 | beloved brother of Harold, Richard, JoAnn, Norman, James, and | ||||||
| 9 | Carol Ann; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Cpl. Bollman was a resident of Norridge his entire | ||||||
| 11 | life; he attended James Giles Elementary School and Ridgewood | ||||||
| 12 | High School; while growing up, he enjoyed playing sports, | ||||||
| 13 | especially football and baseball, but his greatest love was | ||||||
| 14 | roller skating; due to his outgoing personality and great sense | ||||||
| 15 | of humor, he acquired many friends; he always went out of his | ||||||
| 16 | way to help anyone who was in need; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Cpl. Bollman enlisted in the United States Marine | ||||||
| 18 | Corps in 1965; he served in California as a Marine Guard before | ||||||
| 19 | beginning his tour in South Vietnam; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, While serving in South Vietnam with the 3rd | ||||||
| 21 | Battalion, 3rd Marines, India Company, Cpl. Bollman's company | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | came under heavy attack from a North Vietnamese Army battalion; | ||||||
| 2 | he was killed in action on March 1, 1967 at the young age of 23; | ||||||
| 3 | and | ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, For his heroic actions in the face of the enemy, | ||||||
| 5 | Cpl. Bollman received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star with a V | ||||||
| 6 | for Valor; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 7 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 8 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE | ||||||
| 9 | CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the bridge on Illinois | ||||||
| 10 | Route 19 (Irving Park Road) that runs over the Des Plaines | ||||||
| 11 | River in Schiller Park as the "Corporal Donald W. Bollman | ||||||
| 12 | Bridge"; and be it further | ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation | ||||||
| 14 | is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
| ||||||
| 15 | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
| ||||||
| 16 | giving notice of the name the "Corporal Donald W. Bollman | ||||||
| 17 | Bridge"; and be it further
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to the family of Cpl. Bollman, Norridge Village | ||||||
| 20 | President James Chmura, and the Secretary of the Illinois | ||||||
| 21 | Department of Transportation.
