HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, United States House Resolution 2574, Building a Health Care Workforce for the Future Act, is currently before the 115th U.S. Congress; and

WHEREAS, U.S. H.R.2574 amends the Public Health Service Act to require the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to award matching grants to enable states to implement scholarship programs to ensure an adequate supply of health professionals; and

WHEREAS, Under U.S. H.R.2574, scholarships must cover tuition and educational expenses and provide a cost-of-living stipend; and

WHEREAS, Scholarship recipients must agree to serve as providers in shortage areas in the state for one year for each year they receive the scholarship; and

WHEREAS, U.S. H.R.2574 allows HHS to award grants to assist medical schools in developing and strengthening primary care mentorship programs and cultivating leaders in primary care among its students; and

WHEREAS, Numerous areas around the State and the country are experiencing severe shortages of health care professionals, making it difficult for many citizens to receive adequate medical care; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we urge Congress to pass United States House Resolution 2574 to help insure an adequate number of health care professionals in all areas; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be delivered to President Donald Trump, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, U.S. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, U.S. House of Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, and all members of the Illinois Congressional Delegation.
