2 | WHEREAS, Corn is a vital part of the Illinois economy and
| ||||||
3 | should be recognized by becoming the State grain of
Illinois; | ||||||
4 | and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Illinois is the second largest corn producing | ||||||
6 | state; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Corn takes up over 12 million acres of the 27 | ||||||
8 | million acres of farmland; and | ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Illinois has roughly 36.5 million acres
of land; | ||||||
10 | meaning a third of all the land in the State is dedicated to | ||||||
11 | corn; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, According to the University of Illinois
| ||||||
13 | Urbana-Champaign, in 2014, Illinois produced more than 130 | ||||||
14 | billion
pounds of corn; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Illinois is the second largest exporter of corn,
| ||||||
16 | exporting over 50% of all corn it produces; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Illinois alone produces 17% of all corn
grown in | ||||||
18 | the United States; and

1 | WHEREAS, In 2015, Illinois farmers made over $10 billion
in | ||||||
2 | corn sales; therefore, be it
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
4 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
5 | urge corn to be declared the State grain of Illinois and | ||||||
6 | recognize all the wealth
and prosperity this crop brings to the | ||||||
7 | State; and be it further

8 | RESOLVED, That we recognize the members of the Pittsfield | ||||||
9 | Future Farmers of America and the local agricultural education | ||||||
10 | community for taking the initiative in bringing this issue to | ||||||
11 | the Illinois General Assembly; and be it further | ||||||
12 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
13 | presented to the Pittsfield Future Farmers of America as a | ||||||
14 | symbol of our esteem and respect.
