HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The State song, "Illinois", with lyrics by Civil
3War veteran, Charles H. Chamberlain, and music by Archibald
4Johnston, was adopted as the official State song of Illinois by
5the 54th General Assembly on June 30, 1925; and
 
6    WHEREAS, "Illinois", when played, should instill a sense of
7pride in all residents of the Prairie State; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The lyrics of "Illinois" serve to depict the
9beauty and wondrous history of Illinois; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Prior to his presidency, while serving as
11toastmaster at a reunion of the Army of the Potomac, William
12McKinley congratulated Charles H. Chamberlain for having
13"written a song which will never die"; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Illinois is the proud home of four U.S. presidents -
15 Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, Ronald Reagan, and Barack
16Obama; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
18HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
19urge Illinois constitutional officers, members of the Illinois
20House of Representatives, and members of the Illinois Senate to

1encourage the playing of the official State song, "Illinois",
2at all official events; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That we urge our State colleges and universities
4to play "Illinois" at their commencement exercises; and be it
5further
 
6    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
7delivered to Illinois constitutional officers, the Speaker of
8the Illinois House of Representatives, the President of the
9Illinois Senate, as well as the presidents of State colleges
10and universities, the Chairpersons of the Boards of Trustees
11for State colleges and universities; and be it further
12
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14delivered to Stanley D. Banash as a recognition of our thanks
15for his initiative and proposal of this resolution.
