4 | | Johnston, was adopted as the official State song of Illinois by |

General Assembly on June 30, 1925; and

6 | | WHEREAS, "Illinois", when played, should instill a sense of |
7 | | pride in all
residents of the Prairie State; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, The lyrics of "Illinois" serve to depict the |
9 | | beauty and
wondrous history of Illinois; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Prior to his presidency, while serving as |
11 | | toastmaster at a reunion of the Army of the Potomac, William |
12 | | McKinley congratulated Charles H. Chamberlain for having |
13 | | "written a song which will never die"; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Illinois is the proud home of four U.S. presidents - |
15 | | Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, Ronald Reagan, and Barack |
16 | | Obama; therefore, be it
