2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate the Total Living Network | ||||||
4 | (TLN) on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of its founding; | ||||||
5 | and | ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, In 1971, Reverend Owen Carr of Stone Church was | ||||||
7 | inspired to lead the creation of an on-the-air Christian | ||||||
8 | television station to serve the Chicagoland
community; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Five years of development work were required; | ||||||
10 | Reverend Carr's inspiration would become the
first Christian | ||||||
11 | television station in Chicago, and the fifth Christian | ||||||
12 | television station in the United States; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Reverend Carr's entry into broadcast ministry was | ||||||
14 | made possible when experienced television
producer Jerry Rose | ||||||
15 | joined what was to become the WCFC-TV team; he would become | ||||||
16 | TLN's President and would be assisted by many other Christian | ||||||
17 | providers too numerous to mention here; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, TLN launched from the John Hancock Center as WCFC
| ||||||
19 | TV-38 on May 31, 1976 with Mayor Richard J. Daley presiding as | ||||||
20 | guest speaker at the McCormick Place
dedication; with the | ||||||
21 | acquisition of KTLN-TV of San Francisco, California, followed |

| |||||||
1 | by the transition of many viewers
to cable television and other | ||||||
2 | platforms, the WCFC-TV team became the Total Living Network in | ||||||
3 | 1998;
over its 40 years of operation, TLN has produced original | ||||||
4 | programming serving the Chicagoland faith
community, and has | ||||||
5 | received numerous Midwest Emmy and National Religious | ||||||
6 | Broadcasters awards; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, In Illinois, TLN is now an exclusive XFINITY Cable | ||||||
8 | channel, covering Chicago and most of Illinois and
Northwest | ||||||
9 | Indiana; recently, TLN expanded to multiple digital platforms | ||||||
10 | including
ROKU, Amazon FireTV, AndroidTV, and its 24/7 live | ||||||
11 | stream at TLN.com; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, TLN is celebrating
with a banquet at
Lindner | ||||||
13 | Conference Center at Northern Seminary in Lombard on March 10, | ||||||
14 | 2017; therefore, be it
| ||||||
15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
16 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
17 | congratulate the TLN team for the family and ministry outreach | ||||||
18 | they have built over the course of over 40 years of | ||||||
19 | broadcasting excellence from the Chicago area; and be it | ||||||
20 | further | ||||||
21 | RESOLVED, That we recognize the TLN team for creating "A | ||||||
22 | City Without Doors"; and be it further
