HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Brigadier General Alicia A. Tate-Nadeau on the occasion of her retirement from the United States Army on March 4, 2017; and

WHEREAS, General Tate-Nadeau received a commission in the United States Army Reserve after graduating from the University of Central Oklahoma; she served her country for over 30 years, including with the Illinois Army National Guard, beginning in 1989; and

WHEREAS, General Tate-Nadeau earned master's degrees in health administration and strategic studies from Governors State University and the United States Army War College, respectively; she is certified by the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security, and credentialed as a Certified Emergency Manager by the International Association of Emergency Managers; she received Executive Certification in Counter-Terrorism from the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism at the Lauder School of Government in Herzliya, Israel; and

WHEREAS, General Tate-Nadeau's decorations include the Bronze Star, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Meritorious Service Medal with 6 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Polish Army Bronze Medal, the Combat Action Badge, the Polish Air Assault Badge, and numerous other federal, State, and foreign military service decorations, awards, and ribbons; and

WHEREAS, General Tate-Nadeau became the first woman to be promoted to the rank of General in the Illinois Army National Guard; and

WHEREAS, In her civilian capacity, General Tate-Nadeau currently serves the public as Executive Director of the Office of Emergency Management for the City of Chicago, a position she has held since March of 2016; and

WHEREAS, General Tate-Nadeau has always strived for excellence in leadership, and has been quoted as saying, "I never wanted to be the best female officer. I wanted to be the best officer."; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Brigadier General Alicia A. Tate-Nadeau on her distinguished service and we wish her continued success in all her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to General Tate-Nadeau as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
