HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Brigadier General Alicia
4A. Tate-Nadeau on the occasion of her retirement from the
5United States Army on March 4, 2017; and
 
6    WHEREAS, General Tate-Nadeau received a commission in the
7United States Army Reserve after graduating from the University
8of Central Oklahoma; she served her country for over 30 years,
9including with the Illinois Army National Guard, beginning in
101989; and
 
11    WHEREAS, General Tate-Nadeau earned master's degrees in
12health administration and strategic studies from Governors
13State University and the United States Army War College,
14respectively; she is certified by the American Board for
15Certification in Homeland Security, and credentialed as a
16Certified Emergency Manager by the International Association
17of Emergency Managers; she received Executive Certification in
18Counter-Terrorism from the International Institute for
19Counter-Terrorism at the Lauder School of Government in
20Herzliya, Israel; and
 
21    WHEREAS, General Tate-Nadeau's decorations include the
22Bronze Star, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Army

1Meritorious Service Medal with 6 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Joint
2Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with
3one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the
4Army Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army
5Reserve Components Achievement Medal with three Oak Leaf
6Clusters, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign
7Medal, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Polish Army Bronze
8Medal, the Combat Action Badge, the Polish Air Assault Badge,
9and numerous other federal, State, and foreign military service
10decorations, awards, and ribbons; and
 
11    WHEREAS, General Tate-Nadeau became the first woman to be
12promoted to the rank of General in the Illinois Army National
13Guard; and
 
14    WHEREAS, In her civilian capacity, General Tate-Nadeau
15currently serves the public as Executive Director of the Office
16of Emergency Management for the City of Chicago, a position she
17has held since March of 2016; and
 
18    WHEREAS, General Tate-Nadeau has always strived for
19excellence in leadership, and has been quoted as saying, "I
20never wanted to be the best female officer. I wanted to be the
21best officer."; therefore, be it

1HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
2congratulate Brigadier General Alicia A. Tate-Nadeau on her
3distinguished service and we wish her continued success in all
4her future endeavors; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to General Tate-Nadeau as a symbol of our respect and
7esteem.
