2 | | WHEREAS, Sepsis is a toxic response to infection that kills |
3 | | approximately 258,000 Americans each year; it is a leading |
4 | | cause of death for men, women, and children of all ages and |
5 | | wellness levels and is a medical emergency that requires early |
6 | | detection and treatment for survival; and

7 | | WHEREAS, No one is immune to sepsis; it can strike anyone |
8 | | regardless of age, race, color, or creed, and it strikes |
9 | | someone every 20 seconds; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Sepsis kills more people in the United States than |
11 | | breast, lung, and prostate cancer combined; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, The millions of lives lost to sepsis every year |
13 | | around the world are often preventable; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, On July 29, 2017, the fourth annual Illinois |
15 | | Sepsis Challenge 5K Run and Walk will be held in Orland Park |
16 | | with the goals of increasing community awareness of sepsis and |
17 | | assisting sepsis survivors; and |
18 | | WHEREAS, The honorary chairs of this year's walk are the |
19 | | Sappington Family; Ethan is a five-year old septic shock |
20 | | survivor; he has had multiple amputations due to sepsis; |
