2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
| ||||||
3 | Representatives
are saddened to learn of the death of Miki L. | ||||||
4 | Pavelonis of Harrisburg, who passed away on May 1, 2017; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Miki Pavelonis was born in Harrisburg to Edward | ||||||
6 | and Virginia James Gooch on September 22, 1942 and was raised | ||||||
7 | by her grandfather, Alfred James, and her uncle, Windom Elo | ||||||
8 | James; she attended Logan School, Malan Junior High School, and | ||||||
9 | graduated from Harrisburg Township High School in 1960; she | ||||||
10 | graduated from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale (SIUC) | ||||||
11 | with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics and Teaching; she | ||||||
12 | received a full band scholarship with the SIUC Saluki's | ||||||
13 | marching band as a featured twirler; she married her childhood | ||||||
14 | sweetheart, Bob Pavelonis, while in college on December 22, | ||||||
15 | 1963; and

16 | WHEREAS, Miki Pavelonis taught baton twirling in nearby | ||||||
17 | towns for many years; she began working in real estate and | ||||||
18 | eventually formed her own real estate company, American | ||||||
19 | Heritage Realty; she managed the Saline Valley Abstract office | ||||||
20 | for a few years and then went on to work for three Illinois | ||||||
21 | State Attorneys General, Neil Hartigan, Roland Burris, and Jim | ||||||
22 | Ryan; for the next four years she worked in the Regional Office | ||||||
23 | of Education in Harrisburg; and

1 | WHEREAS, Miki Pavelonis left the field of education to | ||||||
2 | become the Director of Regional Services for State Comptroller, | ||||||
3 | Dan Hynes, and spent the next 12 years there until her | ||||||
4 | retirement in 2010; she was active in both State and national | ||||||
5 | Democratic politics and was the first woman to be elected to | ||||||
6 | the Saline County Board of Commissioners; she was also a | ||||||
7 | superdelegate to future President Bill Clinton in Los Angeles, | ||||||
8 | California; she served as a Democratic State Central | ||||||
9 | Committeewoman for 10 years and hosted many dinners and rallies | ||||||
10 | for the Democratic Party throughout her political work; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Miki Pavelonis was an active member of First | ||||||
12 | Church of God in Harrisburg where she served as a trustee and | ||||||
13 | as chairwoman of the ladies' organization; she was also a | ||||||
14 | member of the Christian Woman Connection; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Miki Pavelonis was preceded in death by her | ||||||
16 | parents; her uncle, Elo; her grandfather, Alfred; her | ||||||
17 | mother-in-law, Bonnie L. Pavelonis; and her father-in-law, A. | ||||||
18 | Joe Pavelonis; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Miki Pavelonis is survived by her husband, Bob; | ||||||
20 | her children, Robert "Bobby" (Katy) Joseph Pavelonis, and | ||||||
21 | Michael (Janice) Britt Pavelonis; her granddaughters, Lauren, | ||||||
22 | Bonnie, and Ella; her grandson, Bobby III; her step-grandson, |

1 | Reese Conkle; and her beloved Shelties, Redford and Trudy; | ||||||
2 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
4 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
5 | mourn the passing of Miki L. Pavelonis, and extend our sincere | ||||||
6 | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
7 | her; and be it further | ||||||
8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
9 | presented to the family of Miki Pavelonis as an expression of | ||||||
10 | our deepest sympathy.
