HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Declaration of Independence establishes one
3of the bedrock principles of our democracy, "that all men are
4created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with
5certain unalienable rights, that among those are life, liberty
6and the pursuit of happiness."; and
 
7    WHEREAS, One of the foundational principles of America and
8the strengths of our great democracy is our diversity of
9thought, ideas, and people; we are a country where men and
10women of different races, faiths, sexual orientations, and
11political beliefs are united under the banner of the greatest
12country in the world, the United States of America; and
 
13    WHEREAS, The Illinois House of Representatives and the
14people of the State of Illinois mourn the victims of the tragic
15events in Charlottesville, Virginia and stand unified in our
16condemnation of the hatred espoused by the hundreds of white
17supremacists in Charlottesville; and
 
18    WHEREAS, While the House of Representatives is resolute in
19its support for the free speech rights of Americans, it will
20not ignore or condone hate speech or violence committed by hate
21groups or anyone seeking to commit acts of domestic terrorism
22against racial, ethnic, and religious minorities or other

1classes of protected individuals as was the case in
2Charlottesville; and
 
3    WHEREAS, The House of Representatives mourns the death of
4Heather Heyer and wishes a speedy recovery to the dozens who
5were injured by an individual who sought to silence different
6voices who chose to stand up to show that hate will never win
7out over love and the true American spirit; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The House of Representatives mourns the death of
9the two Virginia State Police Officers, Lt. H. Jay Cullen and
10Trooper Berke M. M. Bates, who lost their lives in the line of
11duty defending the people of the Commonwealth of Virginia;
12therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
14HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15repudiate and condemn white supremacists, neo-Nazis, the Ku
16Klux Klan, and any other group that espouses hate and seeks to
17undermine the very ideals of who we are as Americans; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That we condemn the acts of violence in
20Charlottesville as domestic terrorism; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That we celebrate the diversity of our State and

2    RESOLVED, That we condemn those who seek to spread hate and
3division while attacking the foundational values of our State
4and nation.
