| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The Declaration of Independence establishes one | ||||||
3 | of the bedrock principles of our democracy, "that all men are | ||||||
4 | created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with | ||||||
5 | certain unalienable rights, that among those are life, liberty | ||||||
6 | and the pursuit of happiness."; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, One of the foundational principles of America and | ||||||
8 | the strengths of our great democracy is our diversity of | ||||||
9 | thought, ideas, and people; we are a country where men and | ||||||
10 | women of different races, faiths, sexual orientations, and | ||||||
11 | political beliefs are united under the banner of the greatest | ||||||
12 | country in the world, the United States of America; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, The Illinois House of Representatives and the | ||||||
14 | people of the State of Illinois mourn the victims of the tragic | ||||||
15 | events in Charlottesville, Virginia and stand unified in our | ||||||
16 | condemnation of the hatred espoused by the hundreds of white | ||||||
17 | supremacists in Charlottesville; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, While the House of Representatives is resolute in | ||||||
19 | its support for the free speech rights of Americans, it will | ||||||
20 | not ignore or condone hate speech or violence committed by hate | ||||||
21 | groups or anyone seeking to commit acts of domestic terrorism | ||||||
22 | against racial, ethnic, and religious minorities or other |

1 | classes of protected individuals as was the case in | ||||||
2 | Charlottesville; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, The House of Representatives mourns the death of | ||||||
4 | Heather Heyer and wishes a speedy recovery to the dozens who | ||||||
5 | were injured by an individual who sought to silence different | ||||||
6 | voices who chose to stand up to show that hate will never win | ||||||
7 | out over love and the true American spirit; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, The House of Representatives mourns the death of | ||||||
9 | the two Virginia State Police Officers, Lt. H. Jay Cullen and | ||||||
10 | Trooper Berke M. M. Bates, who lost their lives in the line of | ||||||
11 | duty defending the people of the Commonwealth of Virginia; | ||||||
12 | therefore, be it

13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
14 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
15 | repudiate and condemn white supremacists, neo-Nazis, the Ku | ||||||
16 | Klux Klan, and any other group that espouses hate and seeks to | ||||||
17 | undermine the very ideals of who we are as Americans; and be it | ||||||
18 | further | ||||||
19 | RESOLVED, That we condemn the acts of violence in | ||||||
20 | Charlottesville as domestic terrorism; and be it further | ||||||
21 | RESOLVED, That we celebrate the diversity of our State and |

2 | RESOLVED, That we condemn those who seek to spread hate and | ||||||
3 | division while attacking the foundational values of our State | ||||||
4 | and nation.
