HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Rebecca 
4Pedersen for receiving the "2017 Rural Physician of Excellence 
5Award" from the Illinois Rural Health Association; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, One of the biggest healthcare challenges across 
7our nation is the shortage of physicians who practice in rural 
8settings; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, In 1993, Dr. Pedersen received her Bachelor of  
10Science from Millikin University in Decatur; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Dr. Pedersen went on to earn her medical degree at 
12the University Of Illinois College Of Medicine's Rural Medical 
13Education Program in 1998; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Dr. Pedersen completed the Cabarrus Family 
15Medicine Residency program in Concord, North Carolina in 2001 
16and later that year began her career with FHN; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Dr Pedersen has been extremely active in the 
18administration of FHN, serving as Chair of their Family 
19Medicine Department  and on their Foundation Board; she is 
20currently serving on the FHN Board of Directors and is the

1Hospice Medical Director as well as FHN's Chief Quality 
2Officer; and
 
3    WHEREAS, For the past 16 years, Dr. Pedersen has been a 
4tremendous asset to the area, providing a full range of family 
5medicine including prenatal, obstetrical, pediatric, and adult 
6health care; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. Pedersen has played an integral part in the 
8University of Illinois Rural Medical Education Program, 
9training 4th year medical students as they spend their family 
10practice rotation under her guidance, where she has inspired 
11many to become rural family practice physicians; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Dr. Pedersen is very committed to professional 
13societies, belonging to the American Academy of Family 
14Physicians, the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians, and the 
15American Association for Physician Leadership; and
  
 
16    WHEREAS, In addition to the many hats Dr. Pedersen wears in 
17her medical career, she is also a wife and busy mother of two 
18middle school aged daughters; she can often be found 
19entertaining friends with her culinary creations or riding the 
20bike trails of Northwest Illinois; therefore, be it
  
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE

1HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
2commend Dr. Rebecca Pedersen  for her  selfless service and 
3dedication to her patients and congratulate her for receiving 
4the "2017 Rural Physician of Excellence Award"; and be it
