| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Kenneth |
| 4 | | A. Peterson Sr. of Steger, who passed away on November 23, |
| 5 | | 2017; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Kenneth Peterson Sr. retired as the |
| 7 | | Superintendent of Brookwood School District 167; he was also a |
| 8 | | professor at Governors State University; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Kenneth Peterson Sr. was a member of the National |
| 10 | | Boy Scouts of America; he started with his son and served as |
| 11 | | one of his adult leaders; he went on to become the Michigamea |
| 12 | | Lodge Adviser, a position he held for 11 years; he then served |
| 13 | | as the Order of the Arrow Section Adviser for five years, and |
| 14 | | finally became a member of the National Order of the Arrow |
| 15 | | Committee; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Kenneth Peterson Sr. led the training committee at |
| 17 | | the National Order of the Arrow Conference and chaired the |
| 18 | | Jamboree Vehicles group at the National Scout Jamboree for many |
| 19 | | years; he served the Calumet Council as Vice President of the |
| 20 | | Program and as a member of the Executive Board, where he was an |
| 21 | | advocate and pushed for mandatory training for all Scout |
| 22 | | leaders; he served as the health officer at the Junior Leader |

| 1 | | Training Conference; he also served on the National BSA task |
| 2 | | force and created the National Youth Leadership Training Course |
| 3 | | that is taught to Scouts today; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Kenneth Peterson Sr. was awarded the Michigamea |
| 5 | | Lodge Service Award, the Vigil Honor Agreeable One Award, the |
| 6 | | Founders Award, the Silver Beaver, the Silver Antelope, and the |
| 7 | | National Order of the Arrow Distinguished Service Award; he was |
| 8 | | a mentor to many, always giving advice, encouragement, and |
| 9 | | guidance; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Kenneth Peterson Sr. was the beloved husband of |
| 11 | | Marilyn (Musson) Peterson; the loving father of Kim (Phil) |
| 12 | | Hantak, Kari Kunkes, and Kenneth (Alice) Peterson Jr.; the |
| 13 | | cherished grandfather of Joshua (April) Kunkes, Nickolas |
| 14 | | (Teresa) Kunkes, Heather Kunkes, Michael Hantak, Kate Bilotta, |
| 15 | | Alex (Mattie) Peterson, Joey Hantak, Randall Peterson, Tabitha |
| 16 | | Kunkes, and Cameron Peterson; and the adoring |
| 17 | | great-grandfather of Kevin, Willow, Jonathan, Noah, Sebastian, |
| 18 | | River, and Rose; therefore, be it

| 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 20 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 21 | | mourn the passing of Kenneth A. Peterson Sr. and extend our |
| 22 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew |
| 23 | | and loved him; and be it further
