2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Reverend Willia Brown on | ||||||
4 | her retirement and recognize her 25 years of Professional | ||||||
5 | Chaplaincy and Leadership in Pastoral and Spiritual Care as | ||||||
6 | well as her notable community service; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Reverend Brown has demonstrated strong and | ||||||
8 | effective leadership at area hospitals, including Schwab | ||||||
9 | Rehabilitation Hospital and Care Network, Advocate Bethany | ||||||
10 | Hospital, and Mount Sinai Hospital Medical Center; in | ||||||
11 | collaboration with the Westside Ministers Coalition, Loretto | ||||||
12 | Hospital, and Advocate Bethany Hospital, she led a three-day | ||||||
13 | training program for clergy that focused on Disaster Spiritual | ||||||
14 | Care Response; when she served as a hospice chaplain, she not | ||||||
15 | only journeyed with patients through the dying process, she | ||||||
16 | sometimes secured burial funds for families in need; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Reverend Brown responded to victims of violence | ||||||
18 | and trauma by developing a chaplain's domestic violence and | ||||||
19 | sexual assault program; she served as the Chair for the 11th | ||||||
20 | District Police Domestic Violence Subcommittee and worked with | ||||||
21 | their Clergy Subcommittee for nearly five years; she also | ||||||
22 | served with the 15th District Police, where she designed a | ||||||
23 | training program on community engagement for members of the |

1 | clergy; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Reverend Brown further connected with the | ||||||
3 | community by training over 50 volunteers to minister and | ||||||
4 | support patients and their family members during their | ||||||
5 | admission to the hospitals; she also raised funds to support | ||||||
6 | the training of community clergy in Clinical Pastoral | ||||||
7 | Education, a higher level of hospital clergy training; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, At her office desk, Reverend Brown answered | ||||||
9 | telephone calls from people in local communities who asked for | ||||||
10 | pastoral support during times of depression, threat of suicide, | ||||||
11 | and unemployment; she helped parents who were in need of | ||||||
12 | clothing so their children could attend school; she assisted | ||||||
13 | those who needed food and furniture for their homes; she | ||||||
14 | demonstrated compassionate and sensitive leadership; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Reverend Brown's work and ministry assisted many | ||||||
16 | in the communities of Chicago and the suburban areas; as a | ||||||
17 | chaplain, her pastoral care, patience, and understanding were | ||||||
18 | felt at the bedsides of patients in hospitals, nursing homes, | ||||||
19 | assisted living facilities, and their own homes; she | ||||||
20 | compassionately and skillfully worked with patients through | ||||||
21 | their pain and suffering when they felt hopeless and helpless; | ||||||
22 | therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
2 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
3 | congratulate Reverend Willia Brown on her 25 years of faithful | ||||||
4 | and dedicated care and community service to the people of the | ||||||
5 | Chicago area and the State of Illinois, and we wish her the | ||||||
6 | best in her future endeavors; and be it further
| ||||||
7 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
8 | presented to Reverend Brown as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
9 | respect.
