|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Robert T. Boey on the |
4 | | occasion of his retirement from the Northern Illinois |
5 | | University Board of Trustees and his 22 years of committed |
6 | | service to Northern Illinois University; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Robert T. Boey was among the first individuals |
8 | | appointed by former Governor Jim Edgar to serve on the NIU |
9 | | Board in 1996; he has served faithfully ever since; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, During his time on the Board, Robert T. Boey |
11 | | served as Board Chair for two one-year terms, from 1997 until |
12 | | 1999; he also served in the positions of Vice Chair, Secretary, |
13 | | and fourth member of the Executive Committee; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Over the last 22 years, Robert T. Boey has |
15 | | provided strong guidance and wise council through virtually |
16 | | every major challenge and accomplishment of Northern Illinois |
17 | | University, including co-chairing two presidential search |
18 | | committees; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Boey expressed a personal interest in students |
20 | | and sought ways to enhance their education, including providing |
21 | | laboratory space in his factory for engineering students during |
|

1 | | the formative years of the NIU Engineering program and by |
2 | | mentoring Asian American students at both Kishwaukee College |
3 | | and NIU; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, During Robert T. Boey's participation on the |
5 | | Board, numerous projects have redefined Northern Illinois |
6 | | University's physical presence, including the renovation of |
7 | | Altgeld Hall and the construction of the Engineering Building, |
8 | | Barsema Hall, LaTourette Hall, the Latino Center, Campus Child |
9 | | Care, NIU-Naperville, the Convocation Center, the Barsema |
10 | | Alumni and Visitor's Center, the Northern View Community, and |
11 | | the New Residence Hall; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Not only has Robert T. Boey served on the Board of |
13 | | Trustees, but Robert and Doris Boey have been generous donors |
14 | | to the NIU Foundation, the Huskie Athletic Fund, the Kishwaukee |
15 | | College Foundation, Asian American Resource Center, and many |
16 | | other community causes; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Outside of the Northern Illinois University |
18 | | family, Robert T. Boey has also been a key community leader and |
19 | | has served on the boards of Kishwaukee Community Hospital, |
20 | | Kishwaukee Community College, the First National Bank of |
21 | | Illinois, and the DeKalb County Economic Development |
22 | | Corporation; and

1 | | WHEREAS, Robert T. Boey founded American Bare Conductor and |
2 | | an industrial park in Sycamore, which brought hundreds of jobs |
3 | | to the DeKalb-Sycamore area, and his commitment to his adopted |
4 | | hometown included service on numerous community work groups, |
5 | | including the City of DeKalb Planning Commission and the DeKalb |
6 | | Citizens' Community Enhancement Committee; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Robert T. Boey has received numerous awards, |
8 | | including the Humanitarian Award for Community Service, the |
9 | | Outstanding Volunteer Award from the NIU Foundation, the |
10 | | Clifford Danielson Outstanding Citizen Award from the Sycamore |
11 | | Chamber of Commerce, and the Friend of the Child Award from |
12 | | Community Coordinated Child Care; therefore, be it
|
13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
14 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
15 | | congratulate Robert T. Boey on the occasion of his retirement, |
16 | | and we wish him continued health and happiness in the coming |
17 | | years; and be it further

18 | | RESOLVED, That we commend Robert T. Boey for his |
19 | | willingness to take on community projects over the years and |
20 | | for his faithful service to Northern Illinois University and |
21 | | the DeKalb-Sycamore area; and be it further
