2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate the Marmion Academy |
4 | | hockey team, the Cadets, on winning the Varsity White division |
5 | | for the 2018 Illinois State High School Hockey Championship; |
6 | | and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, The Cadets defeated the New Trier Gray in overtime |
8 | | March
16, 2018; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, The Marmion Academy hockey program was born out of |
10 | | a chance encounter between the program's
founder, Dan Heckle, |
11 | | and a young man at an ice rink in 2013-14 wearing a Marmion |
12 | | shirt, when Dan learned
that Marmion did not have their own |
13 | | hockey team at that time; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, A couple of years later, when Dan Heckle began |
15 | | working at Marmion Academy, he learned that dozens of highly |
16 | | talented
hockey players have graduated or attended Marmion |
17 | | through the years; he garnered support from the
Head of School, |
18 | | Mr. Tinerella, and worked with alumni from the Chicago Catholic |
19 | | Hockey League; he received an outpouring of support from |
20 | | leaders of the Chicago area hockey community; and |
21 | | WHEREAS, With the support of the monks and the |
|

1 | | administration at Marmion Academy, Dan Heckle and his team |
2 | | obtained a charter for Marmion
through the Amateur Hockey |
3 | | Association of Illinois; along with then-coach Chris Imes, a |
4 | | 1994 U.S.
Olympian, and two hockey players and Marmion alumni, |
5 | | Nick and Jake Leon, the Cadets had a staff to
lead the way, |
6 | | with Imes coaching for two seasons; and |
7 | | WHEREAS, For the 2016 season, the program joined the CCHL |
8 | | (Chicago Catholic Hockey League) and today play
against some of |
9 | | the state's toughest competition; and |
10 | | WHEREAS, Two words summarize how Marmion Academy's hockey |
11 | | program has ascended to heights not seemingly possible
to those |
12 | | on the outside - "The Brotherhood"; and |
13 | | WHEREAS, While four teammates are actual siblings, wearing |
14 | | the Cadets name on the back of their hockey sweaters
bolstered |
15 | | school pride to another level for all of the young men; and |
16 | | WHEREAS, Under first year coach Michael Perillo, the team |
17 | | finished as state champions with a final record of
26 wins, 3 |
18 | | losses, and one tie; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, The Cadets chemistry, trust, and ability to remain |
20 | | level-headed was undeniably a factor in their 1 to 1
overtime |
21 | | state championship game against New Trier, ultimately winning 2 |

strongest hockey programs; and

2 | | WHEREAS, The Cadets are Mark Picchietti, Andrew Galle, |
3 | | Sammy Greco, Matthew Sitar, Logan
Gayton, Cole Hostasa, |
4 | | Nicholas Greco, Dylan Foster, Gino Viscomi, Aaron Munson, Sean |
5 | | Gillian, Jacob
Carlson, Collin Ayres, Sean Galle, Henry Walton, |
6 | | Tom Nowicki, Zachary Dietz, and Andrew Madej; the assistant |
7 | | coaches are Greg Sauers, Jared Weaver, and Graham Mosey; the |
8 | | strength coach is Joe Koup; therefore, be it

9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
10 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
11 | | congratulate the Marmion Academy hockey team, the Cadets, on |
12 | | winning the Varsity White division for the 2018 Illinois State |
13 | | High School Hockey Championship, and we recognize Cadets, both |
14 | | past and present, for their outstanding achievements; and be it |
15 | | further

16 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be |
17 | | presented to the Cadets and their coaches as a symbol of our |
18 | | respect and esteem.
