2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Carol Gieske for being |
4 | | named the 2018 Woman of the Year by the Altrusa International |
5 | | Club of Elgin, Inc.; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Carol Gieske is a Certified Fund Raising Executive |
7 | | (CFRE) and has dedicated her career to Elgin; for over 20 |
8 | | years, she provided strong, innovative, and collaborative |
9 | | leadership to the United Way of Elgin; she served as president |
10 | | for 15 years; while in that role, and with a team of |
11 | | extraordinary staff and volunteers, she successfully raised |
12 | | more than $44 million dollars to assist those in need through |
13 | | the Elgin social service network; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Carol Gieske served as President of the Provena |
15 | | Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation (now Presence) and |
16 | | successfully raised funds for the hospital's first capital |
17 | | campaign in more than 40 years, which resulted in the new |
18 | | state-of-the art Bob and Edna Meadows Cancer Care Center and |
19 | | the new heart center; the hospital raised more than $11 million |
20 | | to accomplish this goal; both centers have made a difference in |
21 | | the healthcare needs of the community; and
|
22 | | WHEREAS, In her current position as President of the Elgin |

1 | | Area Chamber of Commerce, Carol Gieske works closely with the |
2 | | City of Elgin staff, connects with Elgin City Council members, |
3 | | and serves with prestigious Chamber board members who represent |
4 | | important community businesses, including Motorola, IHC, Lamp |
5 | | Incorporated, Shales McNutt, AT&T, the Village of South Elgin, |
6 | | Grand Victoria Casino, Elgin Community College, Gail Borden |
7 | | Library, S.D. District U46, Advocate Sherman Hospital, |
8 | | Presence Saint Joseph Hospital, and various financial |
9 | | institutions and manufacturing firms; she collaborates, |
10 | | promotes, and assists the majority of entrepreneurs who are |
11 | | Chamber members; she continually recognizes members for their |
12 | | achievements, through the annual "high five" awards, volunteer |
13 | | luncheons, and business referral networks; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Through the Chamber, Carol Gieske is actively |
15 | | involved in the Small Business Academy, the CEO Unplugged |
16 | | series, and a multitude of ribbon cuttings, business after |
17 | | hours, and economic development meetings and functions; under |
18 | | her leadership, the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce was named |
19 | | among the top three percent of all Chambers nationwide and also |
20 | | acquired the United States Chamber Accreditation; and
|
21 | | WHEREAS, Carol Gieske is an ethical, hard-working, |
22 | | organized, and supportive leader; she has always volunteered |
23 | | for other organizations in the greater Elgin community; she was |
24 | | the first female member inducted into the Elgin Noon Rotary |

1 | | Club, where she also served as President; she chairs the Elgin |
2 | | Advisory Board to the VNA Health Care; she has been an integral |
3 | | part of the award-winning Elgin Area Leadership Academy since |
4 | | its inception and is also a graduate of EALA and remains on its |
5 | | steering committee; she is on the boards of the Alignment |
6 | | Collaborative for Education, the City of Elgin Parks and |
7 | | Recreation Foundation, the Elgin Community College Foundation, |
8 | | the Fox West Philanthropy Network, the Illinois Comptroller's |
9 | | Women's Advisory Board, and Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth's |
10 | | Advisory Committee on Small Business; she is also a member of |
11 | | the women's professional organization, WIM Fox Valley; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Carol Gieske has given back to her community |
13 | | generously through her leadership, volunteer commitments, and |
14 | | professional collaborations; she has maintained ethical |
15 | | practices and is known as a role model for everyone in |
16 | | business; she and her husband, Patrick, have two sons; |
17 | | therefore, be it

18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
19 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
20 | | congratulate Carol Gieske on being named the 2018 Woman of the |
21 | | Year, and we commend her for her contributions to her community |
22 | | and the State of Illinois; and be it further
