HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Gary W. Kerber 
4on receiving the 2018 Rural Physician of Excellence Award from 
5the Illinois Rural Health Association; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, One of the biggest healthcare challenges across 
7our nation is the shortage of physicians who practice in rural 
8settings; and
  
 
9    WHEREAS, Dr. Kerber graduated from the University of 
10Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in 1980; he completed his 
11residency in Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Chicago 
12Hospital and Clinics in 1984; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, During the 1980s and 1990s, Dr. Kerber practiced 
14in a variety of settings, including the Charity Hospital System 
15in rural Louisiana, where he developed a network of 
16telemedicine and teleradiology systems in the rural areas of 
17the state; and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, In 2009, Dr. Kerber's career brought him to 
19Illinois, where he became the Chair of the Medical Imaging 
20Department at Provena Covenant Medical Center; since 2010, he 
21has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department

1of Internal Medicine at the University of Illinois College of 
2Medicine; since 2011, he has treated patients at Gibson Area 
3Hospital and Health Services, where he offers services and 
4state-of-the-art imaging equipment rarely found at a rural 
5facility; he was the driving force behind the addition of the 
6Hybrid Operating Room at Gibson Area Hospital and Health 
7Services; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Dr. Kerber and his wife, Jane, have been married 
9for over 38 years; their relationship began with a Sunday 
10school encounter and a four-week whirlwind courtship; and
  
 
  
11    WHEREAS, Had Dr. Kerber pursued his first love, music, 
12rather than medicine, instead of receiving the Physician of 
13Excellence Award, he might have been inducted into the Rock and 
14Roll Hall of Fame for his guitar playing, which has been a 
15passion of his for the past 50 years; therefore, be it
  
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
17HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
18commend Dr. Gary W. Kerber for his forward thinking and 
19selfless service to his patients, and we congratulate him on 
20receiving the 2018 Rural Physician of Excellence Award; and be 
21it further
  
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
