HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to honor the tenure of our esteemed
4colleague, State Representative Litesa E. Wallace, and thank
5her for her dedicated service to our State and to the people of
6Rockford; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Rep. Wallace was born on the South Side of Chicago
8and raised in the south suburb of Country Club Hills; she
9attended Western Illinois University, becoming the first
10person in her immediate family to complete a college degree;
11she subsequently completed a master's degree in applied family
12and child studies and a doctoral study in educational
13psychology at Northern Illinois University; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Rep. Wallace applied her education as a therapist
15and educator, spending more than a decade counseling children
16and adults in need of mental health services; her passion for
17service led her to assist former State Rep. Charles E.
18Jefferson as a volunteer and later as chief of staff; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Upon Rep. Jefferson's retirement in 2014, Rep.
20Wallace succeeded him in service to the people of the 67th
21District; and

1    WHEREAS, Rep. Wallace immediately championed an inclusive
2agenda that prioritized those who have been marginalized, those
3without a voice, and those who struggle and work several jobs
4to make ends meet; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rep. Wallace championed the well-being of
6children, passing into law a Foster Children's Bill of Rights,
7fighting to secure childcare assistance for working parents,
8and combatting childhood hunger by requiring schools to provide
9students a nutritious meal during the school day; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Rep. Wallace prioritized the health and
11well-being of students by passing into law a new policy that
12requires schools to provide access to free feminine hygiene
13products in bathrooms; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Rep. Wallace passionately fought against policies
15of discrimination and implicit racial bias, helping pass into
16law new training standards for educators and law enforcement;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Concerned about the economic development of
19Rockford, Rep. Wallace successfully pushed for the extension of
20job-creating historic investment tax credit programs that have
21assisted in the revitalization of downtown Rockford; and

1    WHEREAS, Always mindful of the disadvantaged within her
2community, Rep. Wallace hosted multiple drives through her
3district office to provide clothing, food, hygiene products,
4and other essential items to those in need; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rep. Wallace is an example of perseverance,
6dedication, and service to those who have served alongside her;
7therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
9HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10congratulate and thank State Representative Litesa E. Wallace
11for her years of dedicated service; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to Rep. Wallace as an expression of our respect and
14esteem and with our best wishes for her future success.
