| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

| 4 | | Section 5. The Direct Pay Permit Implementation Act is |
| 5 | | amended by changing Section 5 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (35 ILCS 160/5)

| 7 | | Sec. 5. Direct pay permit pilot program. The
The Department |
| 8 | | of
Revenue shall implement a pilot direct pay permit
program as |
| 9 | | a means of collecting State and local occupation and use taxes.
|
| 10 | | The Department may work with Illinois
business taxpayers and |
| 11 | | their representatives to implement a direct pay permit
pilot |
| 12 | | program and to set standards for participation in that pilot |
| 13 | | program.
The Department shall select the participants for the |
| 14 | | pilot program, but
participation shall be voluntary. The |
| 15 | | Department shall
report the results of the pilot program to the |
| 16 | | General Assembly on or before
January 1, 2001, with a |
| 17 | | recommendation as to whether a direct pay permit
program should |
| 18 | | be implemented in Illinois. If the Department recommends that a
|
| 19 | | direct pay program be implemented, the Department shall also
|
| 20 | | recommend legislation to implement that program. The pilot |
| 21 | | program shall end no
later
than July 1, 2001. |
