Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that each school bus operated by a public or private primary or secondary school transporting students enrolled in grade 12 or below for a school related athletic event or other school approved extracurricular activity shall be registered as a school bus, comply with school bus driver permit requirements, comply with the minimum liability insurance requirements, and comply with all special requirements pertaining to school buses in the Code. Provides that a school bus that operates under the provision may be used to transport passengers other than students if certain conditions are met.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

| 4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding |
| 5 | | Section 12-825 as follows:
|

| 7 | | Sec. 12-825. Extra-curricular activities; passengers. |
| 8 | | (a) Each school bus operated by a public or private primary |
| 9 | | or secondary school transporting students enrolled in grade 12 |
| 10 | | or below for a school related athletic event or other school |
| 11 | | approved extracurricular activity shall be registered under |
| 12 | | subsection (a) of Section 3-808 of this Code, comply with |
| 13 | | school bus driver permit requirements under Section 6-104 of |
| 14 | | this Code, comply with the minimum liability insurance |
| 15 | | requirements under Section 12-707.01 of this Code, and comply |
| 16 | | with special requirements pertaining to school buses under this |
| 17 | | Chapter. |
| 18 | | (b) Each school bus that operates under subsection (a) of |
| 19 | | this Section may be used for the transportation of passengers |
| 20 | | other than students enrolled in grade 12 or below for |
| 21 | | activities that do not involve either a public or private |
| 22 | | educational institution if the school bus driver complies with |
| 23 | | Section 12-806 of this Code and the "SCHOOL BUS" sign under |
