AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 2068 




2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 2068 by replacing 
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:


 
 
4    "Section 5. The Illinois Local Library Act is amended  by 
5adding Section 4-18 as follows:
 
6    (75 ILCS 5/4-18 new)
7    Sec. 4-18. Advisory referenda.  By a vote of the majority of 
8the members of the board of trustees, the board may authorize 
9an advisory question of public policy to be placed on the 
10ballot at the next regularly scheduled election in the city, 
11village, incorporated town, or township in which the public 
12library is located. The board shall certify the question to the 
13proper election authority, which must submit the question at an 
14election in accordance with the Election Code.
 
15    Section 10. The Public Library District Act of 1991 is

1amended by adding Section 30-62 as follows:
 
2    (75 ILCS 16/30-62 new)
3    Sec. 30-62. Advisory referenda.  By a vote of the majority 
4of the members of the board, the board may authorize an 
5advisory question of public policy to be placed on the ballot 
6at the next regularly scheduled election in the district. The 
7board shall certify the question to the proper election 
8authority, which must submit the question at an election in 
9accordance with the Election Code.
 
 
10    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 
11becoming law.".
