| 1 | | AN ACT concerning government.
|
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Controlled Substances Act is |
| 5 | | amended by adding Section 315.5 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (720 ILCS 570/315.5 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 315.5. Opioid education for prescribers. Every |
| 8 | | prescriber who is licensed to prescribe controlled
substances |
| 9 | | shall, during the pre-renewal period, complete 3 hours of |
| 10 | | continuing education on safe opioid
prescribing practices |
| 11 | | offered or accredited by a professional association, State |
| 12 | | government agency, or federal government
agency. |
| 13 | | Notwithstanding any individual licensing Act or administrative |
| 14 | | rule, a
prescriber may count these 3 hours toward the total |
| 15 | | continuing education hours required for renewal of a
|
| 16 | | professional license. Continuing education on safe opioid |
| 17 | | prescribing practices applied to meet any other State
licensure |
| 18 | | requirement or professional accreditation or certification |
| 19 | | requirement may be used toward the
requirement under this |
| 20 | | Section.
The Department of Financial and Professional |
| 21 | | Regulation may adopt rules for the administration of this |
| 22 | | Section.
