Amends the Department of Transportation Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Provides that the Department of Transportation shall use the latest safety technology at rural intersections to ensure the protection and conservation of life and property on the streets and highways of this State. Provides that the Department shall create a grant program, with money from the Road Fund, to make the latest safety technologies for rural intersections available to counties and townships.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Department of Transportation Law of the
|
| 5 | | Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by adding |
| 6 | | Section 2705-615 as follows:
|
| 7 | | (20 ILCS 2705/2705-615 new) |
| 8 | | Sec. 2705-615. Rural intersection safety technology. |
| 9 | | (a) The Department shall use the latest safety technology, |
| 10 | | such as real time warning signs with flashing lights and |
| 11 | | vehicle sensors, at rural intersections to ensure the |
| 12 | | protection and conservation of life and property on the streets |
| 13 | | and highways of this State. |
| 14 | | (b) Subject to appropriation, the Department shall, using |
| 15 | | money from the Road Fund, create a grant program to make the |
| 16 | | latest safety technologies for rural intersections available |
| 17 | | to counties and townships. |
| 18 | | (c) The Department shall adopt rules to implement this |
| 19 | | Section.
