2 | | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General |
3 | | Assembly pays honor and respect to the truly great individuals |
4 | | who have served our country and, in so doing, have gone above |
5 | | and beyond the call of duty in truly heroic acts; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Thomas J. Boyle was born on November 13, 1949 in |
7 | | Chicago; his parents were Thomas and Regina Boyle; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Boyle was known as a patriot who loved his |
9 | | country and a person who never stopped trying to assist others; |
10 | | and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Boyle served two tours in the United States |
12 | | Marine Corps in Vietnam; he earned the Cross of Gallantry for |
13 | | his service; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Boyle served with the Chicago Police |
15 | | Department for 30 years; he was personally responsible for |
16 | | capturing brothers Tyrone and Larry Strickland, who were later |
17 | | convicted of murdering Wheeling Police Officer Kenneth Dawson |
18 | | in November of 1985; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Upon his retirement, Thomas Boyle served as a Law |
20 | | Enforcement Professional for the Criminal Investigations |

1 | | Department of the Department of Defense, where he trained |
2 | | police in Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan; and |
3 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Boyle was awarded the Defense Medal of |
4 | | Freedom and the Civilian Commander's award for the |
5 | | investigation and prosecution of eight terrorist bomb makers in |
6 | | Iraq; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Boyle was killed in a firefight on June 19, |
8 | | 2012 while serving in Afghanistan; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Thomas Boyle was survived by his wife of 35 years, |
10 | | Pauline, and his son, Ryan; therefore, be it
|
11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES |
13 | | CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the portion of West County |
14 | | Line Road in Barrington Hills from Bateman Road to Brinker Road |
15 | | as Thomas J. Boyle Memorial Road; and be it further
|
16 | | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation |
17 | | is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with |
18 | | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs |
19 | | giving notice of the name of Thomas J. Boyle Memorial Road; and |
20 | | be it further |
