2 | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
| ||||||
3 | Assembly pays honor and respect to those individuals
who have | ||||||
4 | served our country and, in doing so, have made the
ultimate | ||||||
5 | sacrifice for our nation; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Charles Thomas Heinemeier was born in Alton to | ||||||
7 | John and Lela
Heinemeier on March 2, 1949, the fourth son of 10 | ||||||
8 | children; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Marine Lance Corporal Heinemeier graduated from | ||||||
10 | Bunker Hill High School in 1967, where he
played baseball and | ||||||
11 | basketball; after high school, he worked construction at McCann | ||||||
12 | Concrete and the Olin
Corporation; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, In May of 1968, Cpl. Heinemeier, following the | ||||||
14 | lead of his older brothers, enlisted in the
U.S. Marines; he | ||||||
15 | attended basic training in San Diego and Camp Pendleton | ||||||
16 | California; in December of 1968, he
was sent to Vietnam, six | ||||||
17 | months after he enlisted; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Cpl. Heinemeier was killed on August 19, 1969 | ||||||
19 | while serving with the 1st Marine Division in
Quang Nam, | ||||||
20 | Vietnam; and

1 | WHEREAS, Cpl. Heinemeier was posthumously awarded three | ||||||
2 | Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart; and | ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Cpl. Heinemeier's commanding officer remembers | ||||||
4 | him as the man who made life bearable in the midst of death; | ||||||
5 | "Your son," he wrote Mrs. Heinemeier, "was our morale booster. | ||||||
6 | We wouldn't have made it without him."; therefore, be it
| ||||||
7 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
8 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES | ||||||
9 | CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate IL-159 from Detour Road to | ||||||
10 | IL-16 in Bunker Hill as the "Lance Cpl. Charles Heinemeier | ||||||
11 | Memorial Highway"; and be it further | ||||||
12 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation | ||||||
13 | is requested to erect at suitable locations,
consistent with | ||||||
14 | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs | ||||||
15 | giving notice of the name
"Lance Cpl. Charlie Heinemeier | ||||||
16 | Memorial Highway"; and be it further
| ||||||
17 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
18 | presented to the family of Cpl. Heinemeier, the Mayor of
Bunker | ||||||
19 | Hill, and the Secretary of Transportation.
