2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Frank J. Soliz of Colona, who passed away | ||||||
4 | on December 23, 2016 at the age of 89; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Frank Soliz was born in a boxcar in Silvis to | ||||||
6 | Augustine and Tomasa Lopez Soliz on August 21, 1927; he served | ||||||
7 | in the United States Navy during World War II and married | ||||||
8 | Josephine Terronez in Moline on July 24, 1950; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Frank Soliz worked for the Rock Island Lines and | ||||||
10 | later retired in the mid-1980s from the former International | ||||||
11 | Harvester Works in East Moline; he began working for the Colona | ||||||
12 | Fire Department in 1969, achieving the rank of Assistant Chief, | ||||||
13 | and was a trustee when he retired in 2014; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Frank Soliz was an active member at St. Patrick's | ||||||
15 | Church and was fondly referred to as the door greeter; he was | ||||||
16 | pivotal in the development and completion of the Hero Street | ||||||
17 | Monument and had served as a trustee; he and his wife helped to | ||||||
18 | bring Teens Encounter Christ and Cursillo to the Quad-Cities; | ||||||
19 | he served on the Colona School Board, had been a court | ||||||
20 | translator for Henry County, and was past commander of the VFW | ||||||
21 | 8890 in East Moline; he was recognized as the 1992 Colona | ||||||
22 | Citizen of the Year; and

1 | WHEREAS, Frank Soliz was preceded in death by his wife, his | ||||||
2 | parents, and his siblings, Mary McLaughlin, Margarito Soliz, | ||||||
3 | Tanilo Soliz, and Paul Soliz; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Frank Soliz is survived by his children, Marc | ||||||
5 | (Alohna) Soliz, Stephanie (Robert) Dowdal, Theodore Soliz, | ||||||
6 | Joey Soliz, Kevin Soliz, Sara (Charles) Cervantes, and Stella | ||||||
7 | (Daniel) Holmes; his grandchildren, Kathleen, Charles "CJ", | ||||||
8 | Janell, Jaclyn, Sarah, Kelin, Nicole, David, Andrew, Brianna, | ||||||
9 | Kelsy, Adam, Zackary, and Claire; his great-grandchildren, | ||||||
10 | Celia, Jillian, Jacob, Ava, Isabella, Charles III, Benjamin, | ||||||
11 | Carmendi, Santana, and one on the way; and his siblings, | ||||||
12 | Guadalupe "Sonny" Soliz, Anthony Soliz, Thomas Soliz, Edmond | ||||||
13 | Soliz, Margaret Guajardo, Teresa Soliz, and Isabel Soliz; | ||||||
14 | therefore, be it

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | ||||||
17 | family and friends, mourn the passing of Frank J. Soliz, and | ||||||
18 | extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all | ||||||
19 | who knew and loved him; and be it further
| ||||||
20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to the family of Frank Soliz as an expression of our | ||||||
22 | deepest sympathy.
