SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Joseph Campagna of Silvis, who passed
4away on January 22, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joseph Campagna was born to Maria and Joseph on
6April 12, 1925 and raised in East Moline; he graduated from
7Union Township High School, where he was on the golf team; he
8served in United States Army from 1949 to 1954, rising to the
9rank of First Sergeant; after his honorable discharge, he
10served as the general manager of the Officers Navy Club in
11Newport, Rhode Island; he married Mary O'Connell in 1956; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Joseph Campagna and his wife owned a Dairy Queen
13in Middletown, Rhode Island; after moving back to Silvis in the
14early 1960s, they opened The Flamingo, one of the preeminent
15supper clubs of the time; he managed several other restaurants,
16including the Brown Derby in Princeton, the Beef & Brew in Rock
17Island, and Joe's Bar & Grill in Clarence, Iowa; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Joseph Campagna retired from the restaurant
19business and tended bar part-time at Short Hills Country Club,
20where he caddied in the 1930s; he enjoyed being a pen pal to
21his grandchildren; and

1    WHEREAS, Joseph Campagna was preceded in death by his
2parents; a sister; and six brothers; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Joseph Campagna is survived by his daughter, Ann
4Marie (Mark Nelson); his sons, Anthony (Terry), Joseph
5(Janice), and Michael (Cristin Adam); nine grandchildren; two
6great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Kathryn Spies, and Mary
7Campagna; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Joseph Campagna, and extend our sincere condolences to his
11family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Joseph Campagna as an expression of
15our deepest sympathy.
