| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Charles Goering, who passed away on |
| 4 | | December 12, 2016; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Charles Goering was born in Columbus, Ohio on July |
| 6 | | 10, 1958 and learned to play the piano by the age of six; in his |
| 7 | | teenage years he formed numerous bands, including the Red |
| 8 | | Rooster Band, Red House, and Barrelhouse Chuck & the Blue |
| 9 | | Lights; he followed Muddy Waters around the south trying to |
| 10 | | pick up tips; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Charles Goering was an electric blues pianist, a |
| 12 | | keyboardist, a singer, and a songwriter; his work appeared on |
| 13 | | 14 albums and he is said to have been the only Chicago area |
| 14 | | blues pianist to have studied under Sunnyland Slim, Pinetop |
| 15 | | Perkins, Blind John Davis, Detroit Junior, and Little Brother |
| 16 | | Montgomery; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Charles Goering was affectionately known as |
| 18 | | "Barrelhouse Chuck"; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Charles Goering is survived by his wife, Betsy |
