SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of William C. Otten Sr., a lifelong resident
4of Rock Island, who passed away on January 12, 2017 at the age
5of 89; and
 
6    WHEREAS, William Otten was born in Rock Island to Edward
7and Mary Gillespie Otten on September 5, 1927; he married Rita
8Smith at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rock Island on June
912, 1948; and
 
10    WHEREAS, William Otten was a veteran of the United States
11Army and served during World War II; he was a member of St.
12Pius X Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus; he also
13belonged to the Bricklayers Union Local 7 in Rock Island, for
1470 years; and
 
15    WHEREAS, William Otten will be remembered for his love of
16cards and the Chicago Cubs, his jokes, and his smiling face;
17his love of family was very important to him and he was very
18proud of them; he was an inspiration to all that knew him, had
19a kind word for others, and was always willing to help; he will
20be missed by all; and
 
21    WHEREAS, William Otten was preceded in death by his

1parents; his son, Joseph; and two brothers, Jack and Edward;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, William Otten is survived by his wife of 68 years,
4Rita Otten; his children and their spouses, Mary Kay (Fran)
5Glidewell, William (Lori) Otten Jr., Patricia (Richard)
6Requet, Larry (Dionne) Otten, and Jim (Lori) Otten; his 14
7grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and two
8great-great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11William C. Otten, and extend our sincere condolences to his
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of William Otten as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
