| 2 | | WHEREAS, One hundred years ago, in 1917, the Athletic |
| 3 | | Officials Association (AOA) was
established as a |
| 4 | | not-for-profit member association with the Illinois High |
| 5 | | School Association (IHSA); and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, The AOA became the first association for sports |
| 7 | | officials in the United States of America; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, The AOA now serves over 400 officials from all |
| 9 | | over Northeastern Illinois with
divisions in football, |
| 10 | | basketball, baseball, and softball; these divisions and the |
| 11 | | Executive Board are governed by an all-volunteer staff made up |
| 12 | | of
IHSA officials and umpires, dedicated to furthering the |
| 13 | | careers of AOA officials by providing educational |
| 14 | | opportunities in rules knowledge, holding instructional |
| 15 | | meetings, professionalism training, and promoting |
| 16 | | sportsmanship amongst officials, players, coaches, and fans; |
| 17 | | and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, In furtherance of AOA goals, the AOA instructs |
| 19 | | each division to design and implement an observer
program using |
| 20 | | members of a certified level with IHSA, with NCAA experience, |
| 21 | | professional
experience, or ISHA State tournament series level |
| 22 | | experience to observe and advise new AOA members
