2 | | WHEREAS, The
study of music is basic to a complete |
3 | | education; it provides a
competitive edge for successful |
4 | | educational reform, engages
students in individual and group |
5 | | activity, and develops creativity,
problem-solving, and |
6 | | critical and evaluative skills; and |
7 | | WHEREAS,
Music education helps students acquire skills in |
8 | | the production and
performance of music, as well as an |
9 | | understanding of history and
culture; and |
10 | | WHEREAS, The Illinois Music Educators Association is

11 | | concerned with maintaining and improving school music programs
|
12 | | for all students regardless of their socioeconomic status or |
13 | | their
abilities; therefore, be it |
14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE
HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
15 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
recognize and |
16 | | commend the Illinois Music Educators Association
for their |
17 | | concern for and efforts to enhance the quality of music
|
18 | | education in Illinois schools; and be it further |
19 | | RESOLVED, That we proclaim the month of March of 2017 as |
20 | | "Music In Our Schools Month",
and we urge the observance of |
21 | | Music In Our Schools Month as an
opportunity to support the |
