SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of former Harvard Mayor and community leader, Frank Godo, who passed away on January 23, 2017 at the age of 80; and

WHEREAS, Frank Godo was born in Universal, Indiana to Michael and Mary (Sandor) Godo on November 1, 1936; in 1952, along with his mother and his sister, Julie, he moved to Harvard where he graduated from high school; he was stationed in Germany from 1960 to 1963 as a member of the United States Army 181st Battalion; he married Ruth Ann Mulvenna at the First Presbyterian Church in Harvard on May 25, 1968; and

WHEREAS, Frank Godo was elected to the first of two consecutive terms as Alderman on the Harvard City Council in 1973, and was elected Mayor of Harvard in 1981; upon completing two successful terms presiding over the city council, he took on a venture in the McHenry County judicial system and later became the Secretary of State driver's license facility manager in Woodstock, a post from which he retired after more than 20 cumulative years of service; and

WHEREAS, Frank Godo was a member of the Harvard Rescue Squad for 19 years and was active in the Harvard Boys League for 30 years; and

WHEREAS, Frank Godo was preceded in death by his parents; and six siblings, Barb, Julie, Mary, George, Johnny, and Mike; and

WHEREAS, Frank Godo is survived by his wife, Ruth; his children, James (Deborah) Godo, and Melinda Marie Godo; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Marie and Catherine Daly Godo; one sister, Ann Roskovensky; and the family dog, Missy; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Frank Godo, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Frank Godo as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
