|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Mary Lou Cousley of Alton, who passed |
4 | | away on February 24, 2017; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Mary Lou Cousley was born in St. Louis, Missouri |
6 | | to James and Jean (Handley) Williamson on July 11, 1940 and |
7 | | grew up in East St. Louis; she married Stephen A. Cousley on |
8 | | June 8, 1963 and they settled in Alton; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Mary Lou Cousley taught second grade at Central |
10 | | School in Roxana; she coached the women's tennis team at Lewis |
11 | | and Clark Community College in Godfrey for nine years; she and |
12 | | her husband owned and managed Dormann's Gifts and Interiors in |
13 | | Alton for 16 years before she retired; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Mary Lou Cousley was an avid tennis player and |
15 | | golfer; she was a runner-up in the Boynton Beach Links Ladies |
16 | | Championship and had three holes-in-one; she excelled as a |
17 | | chef, party planner, and entertainer, and one of her "jobs" was |
18 | | DJ for the Social Committee at Colonial Ridge Club, where she |
19 | | spent her winters; and |
20 | | WHEREAS, Mary Lou Cousley was a charter member of the Alton |
21 | | Marketplace and a member of the Junior League of Greater Alton; |

1 | | she was involved with the Community Service League, P.E.O. |
2 | | Chapter IL, the Alton Children's Theatre, and the Jennie D. |
3 | | Hayner Library Board; she was a volunteer with many other |
4 | | agencies; she loved helping beautify Riverview Park and the |
5 | | Sunken Garden, and co-chairing the event known as the Duck |
6 | | Pluckers Ball, a fundraiser for Alton Memorial Hospital |
7 | | Foundation to purchase new ambulances; she was a longtime |
8 | | member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a |
9 | | deacon; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Mary Lou Cousley was preceded in death by her |
11 | | parents and her brother, Charles Williamson; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Mary Lou Cousley is survived by her husband of 54 |
13 | | years, Steve; her daughter, Jean Cousley; her son, Mark (Mary) |
14 | | Cousley; her grandchildren, Chrysa Cousley, Alex Cousley, and |
15 | | Katie Cousley; and many other in-laws, cousins, nieces, and |
16 | | nephews; therefore, be it

17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
18 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
19 | | Mary Lou Cousley, and extend our sincere condolences to her |
20 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
21 | | further
