SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Mary Lou Cousley of Alton, who passed
4away on February 24, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary Lou Cousley was born in St. Louis, Missouri
6to James and Jean (Handley) Williamson on July 11, 1940 and
7grew up in East St. Louis; she married Stephen A. Cousley on
8June 8, 1963 and they settled in Alton; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Mary Lou Cousley taught second grade at Central
10School in Roxana; she coached the women's tennis team at Lewis
11and Clark Community College in Godfrey for nine years; she and
12her husband owned and managed Dormann's Gifts and Interiors in
13Alton for 16 years before she retired; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Mary Lou Cousley was an avid tennis player and
15golfer; she was a runner-up in the Boynton Beach Links Ladies
16Championship and had three holes-in-one; she excelled as a
17chef, party planner, and entertainer, and one of her "jobs" was
18DJ for the Social Committee at Colonial Ridge Club, where she
19spent her winters; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Mary Lou Cousley was a charter member of the Alton
21Marketplace and a member of the Junior League of Greater Alton;

1she was involved with the Community Service League, P.E.O.
2Chapter IL, the Alton Children's Theatre, and the Jennie D.
3Hayner Library Board; she was a volunteer with many other
4agencies; she loved helping beautify Riverview Park and the
5Sunken Garden, and co-chairing the event known as the Duck
6Pluckers Ball, a fundraiser for Alton Memorial Hospital
7Foundation to purchase new ambulances; she was a longtime
8member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a
9deacon; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Mary Lou Cousley was preceded in death by her
11parents and her brother, Charles Williamson; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Mary Lou Cousley is survived by her husband of 54
13years, Steve; her daughter, Jean Cousley; her son, Mark (Mary)
14Cousley; her grandchildren, Chrysa Cousley, Alex Cousley, and
15Katie Cousley; and many other in-laws, cousins, nieces, and
16nephews; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19Mary Lou Cousley, and extend our sincere condolences to her
20family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
21further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
