SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Joan R. Black of Crystal Lake, who passed away on March 20, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Joan Black was born in Chicago to Olaf Mikal and Flora Lillian (Eliason) Rasmussen on September 22, 1945; and

WHEREAS, Joan Black was a retired teacher and librarian and had a deep passion for reading and inspiring children; and

WHEREAS, Joan Black was a member of two long-standing book clubs and an active member of the Ridgefield - Crystal Lake Presbyterian Church community; she was a proud Norwegian and her passions included gardening, puzzles, games, and most of all, spending time with her family; and

WHEREAS, Joan Black was preceded in death by the love of her life, John H. "Jack" Black, Jr. and her parents, Olaf Mikal and Flora Lillian Rasmussen; and

WHEREAS, Joan Black is survived by her brother, Ralph (Dianne) Rasmussen; her sons, Gardner (Stacey) Hjerpe, and Adam (Heidi) Hjerpe; her nieces, Tiffany (John) Kees and Lara (Roger) Anderson; her stepdaughters, Jackie Torres, Pat Breeding-Black, and Laurie (Lewis Toda) Black; 10 grandchildren, Matt (Christy) Hjerpe, Megan, Rachael, Emily, Ella, and Nicole Hjerpe, Renee Thomas, Chris Torres, Vicki (Mark) Gres, and Courtney (David) Tucker; 11 great-grandchildren, Leiah and Landon Hjerpe, Kendall Thomas, Chelsea, Wesley, and Paige Torres, Taylor and Travis Walsh, Evan, Jolie, and Eme Gres; and an immeasurable number of dear friends for whom she was extremely grateful; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Joan R. Black, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Joan Black as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
