SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of June Charlotte Robinson of Chicago, who passed away on March 7, 2017 at the age of 101; and

WHEREAS, June Robinson was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to Era and Lawrence Robinson on July 16, 1915; she attended Phillips High school in Chicago where she pursued a passion for music and was part of a noted singing group that began at that school; her interest in science and caring for people inspired her to enter a Practical Nursing program at Michael Reese Hospital, where she was licensed; and

WHEREAS, June Robinson accepted employment with the Veterans Administration, first at Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital, and subsequently at the West Side VA, now known as Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, where she worked for over 30 years; and

WHEREAS, June Robinson was truly a master seamstress, sewing and sometimes designing clothes for her children, Vera and Loretta; and

WHEREAS, June Robinson was a member of St. John de la Salle parish on Chicago's south side where she was once a member of the school board; she loved her many travels to the Holy Land of Egypt and to countries in Europe; and

WHEREAS, June Robinson was preceded in death by her husband, John Ireland Meredith; her sister, Loretta; and her brother, John; and

WHEREAS, June Robinson is survived by her daughters, Vera Laverne Avery; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grand-children, and five great-great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of June Charlotte Robinson, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of June Robinson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
