| 3 | | law in 1990 prohibiting discrimination
against individuals |
| 4 | | with disabilities in all areas of public life; and

| 5 | | WHEREAS, Increased ADA awareness promotes equality and |
| 6 | | fairness within the United States
for those who live life with |
| 7 | | a disability; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, One of the largest provisions of the ADA is to |
| 9 | | provide access to public facilities so
those with disabilities |
| 10 | | are able to fully participate and enjoy the facilities without |
| 11 | | concern about
accessibility; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, In 1979, Illinois created the Illinois Human |
| 13 | | Rights Act forbidding discrimination
based on sex, age, race, |
| 14 | | color, religion, arrest record, marital status, sexual |
| 15 | | orientation, physical
and mental disability, citizenship |
| 16 | | status (with regard to employment), national origin, ancestry,
|
| 17 | | unfavorable military discharge, familial status (with respect |
| 18 | | to real estate transactions), military
status, sexual |
| 19 | | harassment, and orders of protection; and |
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Illinois is committed to fighting discrimination, |
| 21 | | creating the Illinois Human Rights
Commission to make impartial |
