SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Mary A. Hodnik, who passed away on February 28, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Mary Hodnik was born in Oglesby to John and Josephine Senica on August 28, 1919; she married Anton F. Hodnik in May of 1940 and they settled in North Chicago, where they lived until 1978 when they retired to Holiday, Florida; and

WHEREAS, Mary Hodnik was a homemaker and an avid gardener who loved spending time with her family; she cherished baking Slovenian pastries such as potica and strudel; she baked for many weddings at the Slovenic Home and for bake sales at the local church in Waukegan; she often provided assistance to those less fortunate; and

WHEREAS, Mary Hodnik was a former member of the Mother of God Church in Waukegan and the St. Vincent de Paul Church in Holiday, Florida; she was a member of Slovene National Benefit Society Lodge 14; and

WHEREAS, Mary Hodnik was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tony; he brothers, John, Frank, Mike, Matt, Joe, and Rudy Senica; and her sisters, Sophie Ferrari and Agnes Jamnik; and

WHEREAS, Mary Hodnik is survived by her sons, Anthony (Patricia), Terrence (Lois), and John (Ruth); her grandchildren, Wally Hodnik, Maryann Hodnik, Elaine Brate, Christine Friederich, Kimberly Fermoyle, Mandy Ougheltree, Andrew Hodnik, and Gina Hodnik; 13 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Ann Nedza; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Mary A. Hodnik, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mary Hodnik as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
