SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Mary A. Hodnik, who passed away on
4February 28, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mary Hodnik was born in Oglesby to John and
6Josephine Senica on August 28, 1919; she married Anton F.
7Hodnik in May of 1940 and they settled in North Chicago, where
8they lived until 1978 when they retired to Holiday, Florida;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Mary Hodnik was a homemaker and an avid gardener
11who loved spending time with her family; she cherished baking
12Slovenian pastries such as potica and strudel; she baked for
13many weddings at the Slovenic Home and for bake sales at the
14local church in Waukegan; she often provided assistance to
15those less fortunate; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Mary Hodnik was a former member of the Mother of
17God Church in Waukegan and the St. Vincent de Paul Church in
18Holiday, Florida; she was a member of Slovene National Benefit
19Society Lodge 14; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Mary Hodnik was preceded in death by her parents;
21her husband, Tony; he brothers, John, Frank, Mike, Matt, Joe,

1and Rudy Senica; and her sisters, Sophie Ferrari and Agnes
2Jamnik; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Mary Hodnik is survived by her sons, Anthony
4(Patricia), Terrence (Lois), and John (Ruth); her
5grandchildren, Wally Hodnik, Maryann Hodnik, Elaine Brate,
6Christine Friederich, Kimberly Fermoyle, Mandy Ougheltree,
7Andrew Hodnik, and Gina Hodnik; 13 great-grandchildren; and her
8sister, Ann Nedza; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Mary A. Hodnik, and extend our sincere condolences to her
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Mary Hodnik as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
