| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Walter "Walley" John Sczygielski of |
| 4 | | Gurnee, who passed away on June 5, 2017; and |
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Walter Sczygielski was born in Waukegan on May 4, |
| 6 | | 1941; he graduated from Immaculate Conception Grade School and |
| 7 | | Waukegan High School; he married Elizabeth (Bettie) Schultz at |
| 8 | | Holy Rosary Church in 1966 and they happily celebrated 50 years |
| 9 | | of marriage in September of 2016; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Walter Sczygielski worked for 42 years before |
| 11 | | retiring as the crew leader at the Commonwealth Edison Company; |
| 12 | | he would oftentimes drive around Lake County, pointing out |
| 13 | | various buildings that he and his crew outfitted with |
| 14 | | electricity during those years; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Walter Sczygielski was very proud of his Polish |
| 16 | | heritage and enjoyed participating in cultural activities; he |
| 17 | | could dance a mean polka and was surprised on his 70th birthday |
| 18 | | by his family and friends with a Polish-themed birthday |
| 19 | | celebration; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Walter Sczygielski was a dedicated member of the |
| 21 | | Knights of Columbus Council #731 in Waukegan for 35 years and a |
|

| 1 | | Sir Knight of Bishop Quarter Assembly #197; he was involved |
| 2 | | with the Knights of Columbus through fundraisers such as fish |
| 3 | | frys, Tootsie Roll drives, golf outings, and Polish nights; he |
| 4 | | volunteered his time for many local causes, including student |
| 5 | | athletics, animal rescue, political campaigns, and religious |
| 6 | | organizations; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Walter Sczygielski enjoyed playing golf, going to |
| 8 | | Broadway shows, walking his dog, Oliver, and engaging in lively |
| 9 | | conversation; he had many talents and interests, one of which |
| 10 | | he enjoyed most was helping others; he would easily drop |
| 11 | | anything for a friend or family member in need and his loyalty, |
| 12 | | compassion, and competitiveness will never be forgotten; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Walter Sczygielski is survived by his children, |
| 14 | | Lauren (Daniel) Anders and Andrew (Megan); and his |
| 15 | | grandchildren, William, Claire, Anna, Maura, and Thomas; |
| 16 | | therefore, be it

| 17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
| 18 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 19 | | Walter "Walley" John Sczygielski, and extend our sincere |
| 20 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
| 21 | | him; and be it further |
