2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Mary Frances Draper, who passed away on |
4 | | January 21, 2017; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Mary Draper was born to Judge James V. and Frances |
6 | | M. Bartley on November 4, 1922 and raised in Joliet; she |
7 | | attended Cathedral Of St. Raymond Grade School, St. Francis |
8 | | Academy, and St. Francis College (University of St. Francis) in |
9 | | Joliet; she graduated from the University of Illinois in |
10 | | Champaign-Urbana in 1942 with a Bachelor of Arts in English |
11 | | Literature; she wed Addison Dent Draper on September 4, 1942; |
12 | | and |
13 | | WHEREAS, Mary Draper worked as an assistant at the Peru |
14 | | Public Library, as an aide to State Rep. Donald Anderson, a |
15 | | registered social worker for the Horizons Center in |
16 | | LaSalle-Peru, and with her husband, ran an outdoor education |
17 | | program for middle school students, "Natures Classroom", in |
18 | | LaSalle-Peru; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Mary Draper taught CCD (Confraternity of |
20 | | Christian Doctrine), procured food and clothing for local |
21 | | migrant workers, volunteered for UNICEF, and was active in the |
22 | | Christian Family Movement; and
|
|

1 | | WHEREAS, Mary Draper enjoyed literature and poetry, |
2 | | politics and social justice, caring for physically and |
3 | | intellectually challenged individuals, gardening and the |
4 | | environment, life-long learning, and elder hostels; she also |
5 | | liked hot air ballooning and cross country skiing; well into |
6 | | her 9th decade, she swam daily at the YMCA and did volunteer |
7 | | work with guide dogs for the blind and for several local |
8 | | shelters and agencies in Martinez, California; and |
9 | | WHEREAS, Mary Draper loved social gatherings where she was |
10 | | often asked to perform oratorical ditties, musical parodies, |
11 | | and narrations from Mother Goose; following her husband's death |
12 | | in 1985, she traveled in Europe, Central America, and to |
13 | | national parks; and |
14 | | WHEREAS, Mary Draper enjoyed the arts, visiting museums, |
15 | | and attending theater and concerts; she loved camping, |
16 | | swimming, hiking, and spending time at the family's cabin on |
17 | | the Magnetawan River in Ontario, Canada; after her retirement, |
18 | | she moved to Martinez, California to be near her children; she |
19 | | lived for periods with her various children, enjoying a rich |
20 | | and varied life with her extended family; and
|
21 | | WHEREAS, Mary Draper was preceded in death by her parents; |
22 | | her brother, James M. Bartley; her sister, Nancy Hall |

1 | | (Bartley); her son, Patrick A. Draper; her daughter, Frances |
2 | | Eugenie "Genie" Draper; and her infant granddaughter, Sarah |
3 | | Inez Draper; and

4 | | WHEREAS, Mary Draper is survived by her children, Michael |
5 | | A. Draper, Robyn Draper-Praetz (Peter), Susan Draper |
6 | | (Michael), Peter Bartley Draper, Paul J. Draper (Jean), Miriam |
7 | | A. Goldfien (Robert), Greg C. Draper (Marcey), Allison D. |
8 | | Draper (Jeff), and Jonathon A. Draper (Ginny); her |
9 | | daughter-in-law, Lisa; 24 grandchildren; eight |
10 | | great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; many |
11 | | friends; and her loving caregiver, Terry; therefore, be it
|
12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |
13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
14 | | Mary Frances Draper, and extend our sincere condolences to her |
15 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
16 | | further

17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
18 | | presented to the family of Mary Draper as an expression of our |
19 | | deepest sympathy.
