SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Wayne M. Kassel M.D. of Joliet, who passed away on May 28, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Kassel was born in Berwyn to John and Rose (Pocius) Kassel on September 8, 1937; he graduated from Fenwick High School in 1955 and then earned his Bachelor of Science at Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana in 1959 and his Doctorate of Medicine at Saint Louis University in 1963; he served four years in the United States Naval Reserve; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Kassel did his residency in internal medicine residency at Northwestern Evanston Hospital for three years; he then joined the Joliet Medical Group, now known as the DuPage Medical Group, in 1970, where he practiced medicine until his retirement in 1997; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Kassel served his community as an active member in the Will Grundy Medical Society, the Illinois State Medical Society, and the American Medical Association; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Kassel enjoyed playing golf, photography, and most of all, his life and his family; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Kassel is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lynn Anderson; his children, Diana, Lisa (Matt), Mark (Michelle), and Eric (Carole); his grandchildren, Christopher, Anna (Francisco Juarez), Margaret, Jennifer (Miguel Rodriguez), Thomas, Lindsay, Allison, Michael, Zachary, Rebecca, Jake, Matthew, and Rylie; his niece, Mary (George Gonzalez); and his 10 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Wayne M. Kassel M.D., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Kassel as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
